Egyptian wing, Metroplitan Musem of Art, NYC

Lately I feel everything in New York is under construction. New York is always undergoing change, but this summer it seems as though all of its instituations is taking time to renovate various wings or entire buildings belonging to their institutions. The Met is no different. In addition to the American Wing, renovations are being undertaken on the pools surrounding the Temple of Dendar.

In some ways it's as if New York is preparing for a grand unveiling. Of what, I can't say, but it feels as though there's a coming out party scheduled for a year or two from now, and New York wants to look its best.

I took this photo in the Egyptian wing by the temple on the same visit as the photo before. I had hoped to spend some time in the atrium of the American Wing, but learned it was one of the wings under construction. Instead, I decided to take my book to the Temple of Dendar. A detour took me through the arms and armour exhibit before a guard kindly told me I'd have to return to the grand entrance in order to reach my destination.

Unfortunately, the walls erected around the pools drastically decreased the ambiance of the room. Nevertheless, I found a quiet spot to settle in, and I spent some time reading before the stone became too cold for me and I quit the museum.
