Bronx Zoo, NYC

A few weekends ago I went with Yw to the Bronx Zoo. It was a beautiful day; the sun was out and the weather was humid. It felt like summer.

We got off to a slightly late start and found ourselves waiting in line when we arrived. Large families waited on either side of us. A woman sold water from a cooler for a dollar. It's more expensive inside, she cautioned. We each bought a bottle; the family in front of us bought a bottle for each member.

The zoo was fantastic. As soon as we entered, we saw peacocks, their feathers fanned out before us. Children echoed their cries, hoping they'd all fan their tails. We walked quickly further into the zoo, exploring various exhibits. Towards the end of the afternoon we paused and ate lunch in one of the many pavillions. The tables were almost empty and we enjoyed our park food by a lagoon populated with flamingoes.

One of my favorite exhibits (as always) was the gorilla forest. The way in which the gorillas are revealed in the main pavillion still takes my breath away. We spent almost an hour there, watching as some baby gorillas played with each other and goaded the audience.

This photo is of some baboons in an exhibit leading up to the main pavillion. Unfortunately I forget which type . . .
