Tokyo silhouette, Japan

When Karen heard I was going to Tokyo, she asked me to to buy her some tights. She had bought a few pairs on a trip there, and was looking for more. She told me to look only if I had time; I assured her I would have the time.

One afternoon, I found myself near the area in question. Looking at my maps, I saw how I could walk to subway station near the store. I arrived and then carefully followed her directions. I looked everywhere near the subway station. I looked for a sweets store she said it would be near. I went in both directions. I looked above the subway station. I couldn't find it.

Instead, I found a hip cafe/restaurant where I ate a late lunch. The sky had been overcast and rain seemed to threaten, so I took shelter where I could to see if it would pass. I found other small shops selling a myriad of products. I found a large complex with a grocery store inside. Outside the store, there was a small courtyard where some students were taking fashion fotos of a friend of theirs. And I found this overpass, of which I took this photo.

Disappointed that I had failed Karen in her request, I boarded the subway for other parts of the city. I'm glad I had the time to wander the streets of Tokyo, returning now and again to some of the same spots, and searching out others in my guidebook. There's something nice about visiting a new city a second time.
