Roosevelt Avenue Church, NYC

Recently, I watched Ramin Bahrani's Chop Shop. As the film begins, a boy waits on a street corner along with a number of others workers in hopes a truck will pass by offering work. One does, but the boy is not needed. He jumps on the back anyway. Later, the driver stops and tells the boy he's not needed that day. The boy protests, then reluctantly jumps off to run back home. It's the last we see of the trucks and the workers who wait for work, but the scene stuck with me.

Every so often I go to Queens to eat Thai food at a restaurant called Sri Prah Prai. Increasingly, it seems there are workers waiting on various corners near the restaurant. One corner is right by the elevated subway stop; another is on the same block as the restaurant. In the back of my mind, I have an idea to document their days and their stories.
