Elmo, midtown, NYC

Times Square keeps changing; this weekend they closed off a block of Broadway to traffic in an effort to reclaim it as a park. They did the same a few blocks south, in front of Macy's. I wonder if it will make the area seem more or less congested. It seems Times Square is an area that should be congested; perhaps now the congestion will just shift its population distribution.

I took this photo a few weeks ago while walking through the area. I seem to be in Times Square a lot more this year than I have in years past. I suppose it has to do with attending the theater now and again and the fact that ICP is nearby.

I'm not sure why Elmo was standing on the corner. I've never been a fan, though my friend Simone has a new-found appreciation for the muppet. She sees Elmo as gentle and kind. And her daughter loves him, which alone is reason enough.
